(Austin) The landscape for the current 84th Legislative Session was revealed today as Speaker Joe Straus announced House committees and chairmanships for the 84th Legislature. Among the key players with prominent assignments is State Representative John Frullo (R-Lubbock).
Frullo's history of leadership on complex policy issues prompted conservative leadership to assign him to some of the most significant committees in the House. Serving in his third legislative session, Frullo was appointed Chairman to the Insurance Committee and will also sit on the Culture, Recreation, & Tourism Committee.
"I am deeply honored Speaker Straus has entrusted me to carry out these important roles. There are many pressing issues related to insurance and I look forward to getting to work," Frullo said. As Chairman of the Insurance Committee, Frullo will preside over all policy matters pertaining to insurance and the insurance industry. Previously this chairmanship has been carried out by Representative John Smithee (R-Amarillo). "Representative Smithee has left some large shoes to fill. He's been an outstanding chairman, and I'm eager to continue the legacy of strong leadership in the Insurance Committee," said Frullo of his predecessor.
On the Culture, Recreation, & Tourism Committee, Frullo will oversee legislation relating to the promotion, development, and regulation of tourism, state parks, and the cultural and historical resources of the state of Texas.
"In this session, we are tasked with shaping legislation that will impact the everyday life of millions of Texans," Frullo said. "The work done by the committees is integral to the policy-making process, and I look forward to continuing that work for the people of District 84 and the state of Texas."
