After nearly 18 hours of floor debate wrapping up at 5:49am and more than 350 proposed amendments, I'm pleased to announce that we were able to approve a fiscally conservative budget that is responsive to the needs of the state and prioritizes issues that are crucial to Texans. We provided much needed funding to public education, ensured we have the resources to secure the border, and gave relief to a strained transportation system. This budget makes critical government reforms for increased transparency and prompts significant tax relief. In addition we were able to boost formula spending for higher education. I applaud the Appropriations Committee for the job they have done on the budget, and am excited to continue our work as a legislative body as we move further into the 84th Legislative Session.
